DAVID DOUBILET

David Doubilet is a contributing photographer for the National Geographic Magazine where he has photographed over 70 stories since his first assignment there in 1971. David has documented our changing underwater world since he first put his Brownie Hawkeye camera in a rubber anesthesiologist’s bag at the age of 12. Throughout his career he has documented changes in the Caribbean and Red Seas, the dark depths of Japan, the delicate and dangerous waters of Africa’s Okavango Delta and the temperate corners of the Pacific from Vancouver to the bizarre underworlds of Tasmania and New Zealand’s Fjords. David also enjoys the challenge of commercial assignment photography. A recent assignment found him taking models wearing the entire Milan spring fashion collection underwater. David’s images appear in countless publications around the globe. He is a sought after commercial assignment photographer, a monthly feature columnist, contributing editor and author of several books on the sea. He is honored to have received many prestigious awards including: The Explorers Club Lowell Thomas Award, The Lennart Nilsson Award in Photography and the Blue Ocean Award. David is an honorary fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, an ambassador of exploration for Rolex Watch Company and a founding member of the International League of Conservation Photographers.
