ADD TO SHORT LISTSpanish photographer Pasqual was born in 1970 and speaks Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan and English. He studied Political Science and Art History in Barcelona followed by a stint in New York at the International Center for Photography. He began his career in photojournalism in Nicaragua with a published book “Nicaragua: So Violently Sweet” in 1989. He has been based in a number of different continents from Latin America and Europe to his more recent choice – the Middle East. Correspondent for AP in south Mexico between 1995 to 1998 covering the Zapatista insurgency. His clients include The New York Times, TIME, La Vanguardia, Financial Times, Le Monde and Der Spiegel. Also works as a consultant in the Middle East for the Open Society Institute (Soros Foundation), coordinating the Citizen Journalism program in the region and leading photojournalism workshops for youth across the entire region. Work in progress on a book project about the Nakba in Palestine called Traces, alongside Professor Ilan Pappe from Haifa and Essex Universities. He has won a variety of awards including the FotoPress ’99 grants. Pasqual is currently based in Beirut, Lebanon.
